The Ministry of ICT and EA-RDIP hosted a technical consultation workshop with leading telecom operators, including Telesom, Somtel, and Somcable, to discuss broadband expansion.
The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MICT) and the EA-RDIP PIU convened a comprehensive technical consultation workshop bringing together leaders and engineers from licensed telecommunications operators, including Telesom, Somtel, Somcable, and local Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
The workshop focused on technical alignment, infrastructure-sharing regulations, and removing operational hurdles to expanding high-capacity broadband across the country.
Key agenda items tackled during the technical sessions included:
• Fiber Conduit Sharing & Co-Location: Establishing standardized guidelines for utility trenching, duct-sharing, and tower access to reduce capital expenditure and speed up deployment.
• Quality of Service (QoS) Benchmarks: Collaborating on service level parameters and network resilience standards to ensure consumers receive reliable, high-speed connectivity.
• Universal Access Strategies: Identifying commercially unviable rural areas that can be incentivized through project-backed last-mile connectivity support.
The operators commended the consultative approach led by the Ministry and pledged active technical collaboration to realize a competitive, unified national digital market.
